YouTube Notes ("we", "our", "us") is a browser extension that lets you take timestamped notes on YouTube videos. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We designed the product to collect as little as possible.
1. Information we collect
Account information
When you sign in with Google, we receive your basic profile: your name, email address and profile picture. We use this solely to create and identify your account.
Your notes
The notes you create — their text, the associated video URL, and timestamps — are stored so they can sync across your devices.
Preferences
Your theme and language choices are stored locally in your browser.
Anonymous usage analytics
To understand which features are used and improve the product, we collect anonymous, aggregate usage statistics (for example, that a note was added or that Notes History was opened) via Google Analytics. This contains no personal identifiers and never includes your note text, the videos you watch, or your search queries — it cannot be used to identify you.
2. What we do not collect
- We do not read, collect or store your YouTube watch history.
- We do not track your browsing on other sites.
- We do not post, like, comment or take any action on your behalf.
- We do not access your contacts, files or any Google data beyond your basic profile.
3. How we use your information
We use the information we collect only to:
- Provide and sync your notes across devices.
- Authenticate you and secure your account.
- Improve the reliability and performance of the product.
4. Google API disclosure
YouTube Notes' use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We request the minimum OAuth scopes required to operate — your name, email address and profile picture.
5. Data sharing
We never sell your data. We do not share your personal information with third parties for advertising. Anonymous, aggregate usage statistics are processed by Google Analytics solely to help us improve the product. We may use trusted infrastructure providers (such as cloud hosting) purely to operate the service, under strict confidentiality.
6. Data security
Your data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS) and stored securely. While no system is perfectly secure, we apply industry-standard measures to protect it.
7. Data retention & deletion
Your notes are retained until you delete them or your account. You can request full deletion of your data at any time — see our Delete My Data page.
8. Your rights
You may access, export or delete your data at any time. Depending on your region, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above.
